On behalf of all the SCUM riders and visitors to SCUM races I would like to sincerely thank all the people that made our life at the SCUM events such a great experience throughout 2014.
First of all a big thanks to Pat and Russ. You guys have demonstrated a great deal of patience and passion for the club over the past twelve months; firstly to deal with all the red tape and issues related to the agreement with State Forests and secondly to believe that if you stick with something you truly believe in things will eventually happen.
I have been involved in the club for six of the ten years and have seen the club go through several phases in that short period. From a club with over 100 riders turning up to races to two years later struggling to hold club races at all these guys knew that eventually the club would turn the corner, enter another phase and begin to return to those successful early years.
This year has proven that with a new cross country series thanks to people like Grant, Tony, Nick, Vanessa, etc and a healthy trail crew thanks to Lewy and all the guys that kept turning up on their weekends to add to and maintain Coondoo and Butterfly. The trails have been fantastic to race on all year.
There are surely other people I haven’t mentioned that have played a large part in making this work and please mention them here because they deserve to be acknowledged for their valuable efforts. I’m only one club member and I don’t know everyone but I, along with all the other riders appreciate everything you guys do to allow us to enjoy our sport.
The effort and vision it took to organise the Decade of Dirt deserved more participation but maybe that took a bit of pressure off the people running the event. It cannot be easy to chase riders all over the countryside, when you could have run another endurance event around Coondoo. This again is indicative of what these guys see in this club, ie a vision for the future, of more variety in races and more adventure out in those forest trails.
2015 already looks like being another successful year for the club. The seeds have been planted and the club is ready to flourish again. If you want to be part of the team that makes this work join the race or trail crews next year and become part of the vision.
Thanks again to Pat, Russ and all the 2014 SCUM team!
