The Angry Doctor 100k Enduro was held on Sunday 2nd September down the coast at Mogo. The advertising catch phrase for the event was "It will rip your legs off" and it pretty well lived up to this claim.
The first climb came after about 4 k's, with the last climb being inside the last 500m. In between, there were lots more, with virtually no flat sections. If you weren't climbing, you were going downhill. The only thing was the downhills didn't last as long as the climbs.
There was plenty of single track sections which ranged from fast and flowing to tight and twisty, nothing too technical. Probably the best section was a fast downhill run with perfectly bermed corners at the 90k mark.
Whilst there were no long climbs (like the Highland Fling) there were numerous short steep sections. Some riders had trouble negotiating the back slope of waterbars whilst climbing some of these steep sections.
Add into the mix some creek crossing, some with rocky bases, others through sand and ranging from very shallow to thigh deep!
Some SCUM results - Gareth Barnes, 80th in 6:17;24, I was 132 in 7:01:11, Di Perry 162 (3rd Elite female) in 7:23:42, Kev Bristow 163 7:25:31 and Pete Windley 169 in 7:32:39.
Current Australian Marathon Champion, Craig Gordon won in 4: 18!
In the 50 k race, which covered the first 50 k's of the 100k event, Paul Traynor was victorius in 2:11:59. Paul Perry 2:36:06, finished 11th after dropping from third after puncturing twice! Alexis Barnes - 38 in 2:55:34, Arther Lidbetter - 96 in 3:18:01. Dave Slater - 105 in 3:19:16. Jason Colusso - 120 in 3:25:53. Darryl Head - 198 in 4:12:49. Youngster Darcy Campbell - 202 in 4:15:30.
Overall, a great day out and I would recommend this event to anyone considering a marathon race. Just make sure you get som ehill work in before you go.
