On the Dave Slater Incident
It looked not so good as he went to "show off" in front of me before we were to sprint to the finish, crossing up the front, skidding in the leaves, passing through a small tree with his shoulder. He was fair winded, should and rib pain. Unfortunately it wasn't graceful. Hopefully he makes a full recovery soon, back with vengeance and sort out the sport b boys.

Unfortunately as the years wind on a bit, you don't bounce back from an injury like that real quickly. I hope I'm wrong, but I dont think we'll see Dave on the track for a while.

It has been brought to my attention, by somebody with to much net surfing time on their hands, that "Grudgematch" riders are dropping my name in their blogs.
I did not intend to have my name dropped by these riders. However I must mention I did meet, for the first time, a Mr C. Armour at the 8hr.

Gees, wasn’t there heaps of riders!
I should have taken Mark Fenners idea at the start, backing his way into the center of the front row between the ultra fast looking people, while the rest of us tried to find some space around the back of the solid front row. I spotted Shane (Bikes at the Basin) wiggle his way in behind the fast looking riders.
After a short wait we were off in a cloud of clicks and sticks. In the big ring down the fire-trail towards the tented area and the single-track squeeze. I was surprised there were not rides with pop-up tents attached to their handlebars, it was four bikes wide.
I wore a heart rate monitor this race and wanted to watch my output through the monitor. I normally just go by the way I feel, it has seems to work for me most of the time. As always the aim of the day was to last the 8hrs and to keep an eye on the monitor.
The track was in great nick after a couple of races on it but the lack of open trail made for some long congo lines. This also upset a few "competitive" riders who couldn’t handle the pace and or the occasional mistakes by our less experienced compatriots.

So it took 3 laps to get through the masses and it wasn’t till after lunch that the riders on the track finally spaced out to get some open track. My food/drink support was doing a great job again and had many stories of crashes at that final jump and corner.
