SCUMs own Sport A rider from last year Mr Bekkers has filled the 24hr boots in the QLD state by completing the Merida 24. He did it the hard way, pushing his ss around. There was no catagory for ss and when asked why he did it, he responded to the other race enterants with the quirk "I couldnt afford a derailer".

Team Merida, whose members regularly visit our SCUM rounds, recognised Boz's SS endeavour and provided encouragement every lap they passed him. Team Merida took out the overall win completing 59 laps in a very hard fought competition.
Ay-up the lighting people lent Boz their Enduro set-up and replacement batteries when needed for the race.
Pearso was at the beck and call for our SCUM grown champion, and diligently handled the water and food. It took such a toll he had Monday off to recover. He mentioned the great atmosphere at the event and it spurred him on to ride a little more, maybe. Hints about how to handle the 24 were as follows, chocolate cake, marsh mellows and a comfy chair.

Low-lights include the three flats sustained and possible rear wheel ruined after changing two of the flats and riding back to transition on the third.
Big Congrats to Boz and Pearso for a great effort. Looks like there will be a few more people, drivers, roadies and MTBers taking notice of the SS rider in Brizzy chasing them up the street. Could be our next Forest Gump.
