The State series kicked off last weekend at Lithgow on a course very similar to the one they used for the 8hr last year. Nice and flowing with plenty of little climbs, they used a "12.5km superloop" course and each category did half the number of laps they would normally. Ben and I decided to sit it out so we could watch the kids race. Zoe (11) and Jamie (9) competed in the under 15 womens category, which they had all to themselves - and we figured driving for 3 and a half hours would get them some extra competition! Anyway, they rode really well and finished in good time. (Results are on the bright orange website.) And they were so proud to be on the podium wearing medals! Also saw Shane Wood take 6th in Elite men and Duncan Miller 7th in Masters men. Well done guys. The elite mens was really close with Brian Price only just beating Charlton Durie, who I think is only 17 or 18 and rides like a champ. Joshua Carlson came 3rd. A good weekend away - although bloody freezing!

Two kids on the up and up. Fantastic effort and great exposure to the higher level of mountain biking competition. They've tasted the podium, nothing will hold them back now. ;D 10 out of 10 for the support Mum and Dad. Charlton Durie beat Josh Carlson...wow, top effort.
