Went to Wagga on the weekend to race the 2nd round of the state series. It started with a night short course on the saturday night, which was pretty exciting to watch (but bloody freezing!). Josh Carlson led most of the race with blistering pace and grabbed the elite victory in a flat out sprint. Go Josh!
The next day Andrew Blair took out the elite men, with Brian Price 2nd and Josh Carlson 3rd. We didn't see any other SCUM regulars there other than Josh. Ben did well to get 5th in the Masters (those guys are pretty quick) and I won the Sport Women (yeah, pretty easy when you're the only one in it!) - but my times were OK so I reckon I would've actually gone OK in the elite. Maybe next time.
Zoe and Jamie came 1st and 2nd again - still the only takers in the under 15 women. Zoe put in a pretty good time for an 11yr old and I reckon Jamie was the bravest rider on the day, finishing a difficult 2nd lap after a stack - being covered in mud and riding through the freezing rain was pretty tough for someone so little.
The track was a bit slippery by the end. The course there at Pomingalarna Park is really well laid out, with plenty of good terrain but there are no berms on the most of the corners, which makes them tricky to take at speed and some of the off-camber traverses got a bit sketchy with the rain (plenty of trees to run into at the end of each off-camber bit!). All in all a good event, but it would've been even better with more competitors so maybe some of you guys should come along to the next one which is a bit closer to home (Springwood, Blue Mountains, 15th June).
