hi guys,
just thought i'd let everyone know how the first round of the australian series went over at eagle park in adelaide on the weekend just gone.
The race was held at Eagle park, a purpose built mountain bike park just 20 mins from the city of adelaide. (similiar to stromlo)
There was around 480 competitors from around australia competing in both cross country and downhill.
i competed in the elite men's race which was a grueliing 7 laps around a tough and super pedally course. It wasn't very techo but you had to be pedalling super hard all race with nearly no downhills or descents to rest. The temp reached up around the 30 deg. mark and it took its toll on some riders who suffered heat stroke after the event. As well as those that didn't even finish from the heat.
There were 31 starters in the elite men/elite under 23 field and the course was approx. 7k long i think with a dirty big climb at the start and not stop pedaling for the rest of the track.
I started off the third row and had a really strong first lap. My lap times ranged from 20mins to 22mins over the 7 laps with a total time of 2 hours and 32mins. The winners lap times (chris jongewaard) were from 18mins to 20 and he finished in a time of 2 hours 18mins. 2 nd place was around 4 mins behind him in 2 hours 22min. The rest of the riders inbetween 2 nd and me were relatively close.(full results and lap times can be found at mtba website)
I was about 7th or 8th for the first lap but i think i pushed a bit oo hard and i started to work my way back through the field to about 15th. I found sum legs and started to keep my lap times consistent and manages to wotk my way back upto 12th position where i ended up finishing the race.
It was super hot and hard to get a drink in because you had to do so much pedaling but in the end it was a good hard race.
I ended up 12th overall and in the elite classification i was 7th. Not a bad start to the series but i no i can ride and feel better ad hopefully i can do so at the next round up at the gold coast in 4 weeks.
Thanks heaps to Spearman cycles, Giant bikes, FRS health drinks and fenz for training me up. The training i've been doing with fenz is really paying off and without his support and training programs i wouldn't be where i am know. Thanks heaps!
Hope you guys liked the quick run down. Until next time..laterz!
p.s: just thort i'd mention that my giant hardtail is for sale for $2300. Awesome bike and great price. Let me no on here if anyone is interseted and i give u my details so u can give me a call and we can have a chat. Thanks guys
