Does anyone else have this problem? I looked in my shed the other day at my growing box of old bike parts and found that I have 4 brand new stems all 120mm long . All of these are from new bikes over the years . Just because I m 6'2" doesn t mean I want to be pitched over the hangers every time I grab a fist full of shimano. Now, I just ordered a new bike and surprise surprise I ve got another 120 freakin mm stem to add to the collection....nice..........does anyone else experiment with Bar width /Stem length and height /seat for and aft position to maximise your riding position to rail corners or do you just pull it out of the box and rip it up .(This is even before you start playing with shock settings).

Hey Nat Yeah I agree, Sizings of bikes off the shelf are quite bizzare. For trail riding/enduros I think effective top tube length, and seat adjustment are the key to cockpit comfort, if you get it spot on and have a shorter stem the bike handles quick and feels like you can throw it a bit more.
I've heard some say and it seems to be common, get the seat tube length right and then adjust cockpit length with a longer/shorter stem but I'm not so sure its that easy.
Having built my last 3 or 4 bikes from the ground up even getting the right 70, 80, 90, or 100mm stem is sometimes very challenging.

I am only new to the MTB thing and was getting sore shoulders, I had a contact at cyclefitcentre.com who helped me to set me up to the bike. They were great Steve Hogg seemed to know his stuff. jimmy
