Rumors are starting to filter out about a 100k event with SCUM involvement. I understand that there maybe some sensitive negotiations going on still but what can we know about the desired coarse? Will there be need for more single track to be established, eg the "superfly" link? I'm not sure what is known and what can be revealed but as far as the track side of it goes it would be good to start things rolling as early as possible. Cheers Matt

I'd be interested to know where these rumours are coming from?? The event (including the course) is the responsibility of 'Black Heart Events' and I'm sure they'll anounce everything in due time. As far as SCUM is concerned and in my capacity as 'Trails Coordinator' I can assure you, there wont be any changes to our singletracks, our only involement may be the possibility of a bit of trail grooming before and after the event.

Thanks Pat! They seem to have a good web site and it will be interesting to see what they have in mind especially considering the distance to be covered and the various land owners through out the forest. Cheers Matt

Ok now I'm upset!!! Husky Enduro that runs from Callala? Callala ain't husky, it's 50km from Husky we don't even play the same type of Banjo's! I see all three SCUM tracks are on the play list. I'll only consider riding if it's renamed the "Callala Enduro" Still dodging the Brumbies Matt

Yeah...interesting eh?..Start/finish Callala Beach, yet it's called the "Husky 100Ker" They could suprise even some of us hardened locals....they look to be a pretty professional unit, I hope it turns out a great event.

Maybe they will be using Ricks idea from years ago, and inflate car tyre tubes and float across I like the bit about being concerned about wear and tear on all the tracks. Maybe Forests NSW need to tell the 100's of unregistered dirt bikes that use the area the same thing

I have to agree that it sounds intriguing, and I'll be interested to see how the course strings it all together.
I don't dare enter though - race day is the date my wife is due with our 2nd, not sure she would appreciate a text when she is in labour that I'll be heading back to Sydney once I've finished the last section of singletrack....
I have only had a brief look at the website, and I may be coming from the wrong angle so feel free to dump me back in my box, but I wouldn't like to think that the work you have put in to develop those XC trails and the relationship you have got with Forests NSW is taken advantage of. The Merida 6hr was great event, and it gave credit where credit was due for the course, even the working week events ensured everyone knows the clubs are the real grunt behind the events. The opportunity only exists for a 100k event with great single track because of the efforts that you guys have put in over the years and I wouldn't like to think that a promoter can piggy-back on your work to build and maintain what i still think is the best xc trail network i have ridden in NSW. Sorry if i've gone off half-cocked.

Sorry if i've gone off half-cocked. No, it's great to be reassured that people do realise mountain biking only exists down here because of SCUM.... If anyone wants to hold an event in a state forest they need a special purpose permit and if it's a mountain biking event, FNSW will contact us to make sure we are OK with them using our trails, before they grant the permit. I have always had issues with people making money from our volunteer efforts, but as long as SCUM gets looked after and local riders have events to enter, there's an upside. For a while now, the mountain biking calender has been very congested mainly due to event management companies cashing in on mountain biking's popularity. Having said that though, our club rounds are still getting bigger and we can only attribute that to the hard work of our volunteers making our races cruisey, affordable and fun to attend....oh, and our friggin' awesome trails!! Be assured though, the executive discusses long and hard before giving the OK to anyone wanting to use our trails or club's resources and if any of them dont fulfill their obligations or we get too much negative feedback, they wont get the OK again.
