Let's hear it for our awesome SCUM Junior team, who won the mixed schools category, lapping their main competition from the Southern Highlands. All six of them were amazing. Matt Smith proved his background in athletics by putting himself in the first couple of runners of the Le Mans start to get the team off to a flyer. They were in the lead right from the start. It was also handy to have a bike mechanic to run his eye over any potential bike issues! Jake Whitton punched in the fastest lap for the team with a blistering 54:59. Kurt Winfield was fastest over the whole race - his four laps were all under an hour and his last lap was his quickest - 55:42! His hidden talents of filling up the water container and taking out the rubbish were also appreciated. Isaac Whitton was super consistent (as well as excellent at making a chair look like the most comfortable bed in the world) and I might add he was also very polite when he sped past me on his last lap. Happy Birthday Isaac - hope you are having a great day! Zoe Binder put in four good lap times that were very quick compared to the other junior girls in the event - her times (best time 65:20, last lap 67:07) wouldn't have been out of place in the winning female team! And finally Luke Harden lived up to his name and went hard, rounding out a great team. The club got a good wrap when the kids were called up to the podium and we were all mighty proud. Also a big thanks to Rachel Whitton for keeping them all fed and watered. Well done all of you! ;D

Well done to all the SCUM teams.
One lap on Friday on the Rigid SS and I was glad it wasn't me racing around that track.
I did enter the track stand comp though, sadly I didn't win:(
And it was also good to see that people watch my You tube videos:)

Smaller....but very familiar.

Check out Matty from second 44 to 46 on this vid. Talk about taking it all in your stride.. I particularly love the bit were the guy in blue decides to go against the flow of traffic to look for his bike.

Scott 24 with Raging Bull Racing Race along the crit track, down the fire-trail, two wheel drifting around the first corner to the outside of the gate. Keeping the pace up along the open trail to the short section of bitumen (now known for the spew patch). The first section of single track is dry and hard packed can be pumped and weaves through the shrubbery. The next section caught me out with its additional lumps of soil, when attempting a high speed passing maneuver found me improvising over a mound of dirt and weeds. The climbing at Stromlo comes with switchbacks, a great place to get familiar with the 180 turn (team Powered by Freddo calls them Bill-backs). You could join a couple of conga lines lead by a slower rider, courteously passing riders when the opportunity arises. The GT was stiff and turned on a dime, it was light and accelerated swiftly when making a break for it on the sections of fire trail. The track and Bill-backs open a little as the climb continues and it wasn’t till the traverse across the top of Stromlo that it narrowed and turned just a bit rocky. Check mcrummy.blogspot.com for the full tale.

There is a great story in todays South Coast Register on the fantastic efforts of SCUM Junior team at the SCOTT this year with some great associated photographs. A literary and pictorial masterpiece of regional journalism IMHO. Brilliant photography Kev and a fantastic word picture crafted by the uncredited amateur journo who covered the story.

I thought the write up lacked substance and any real thought. I advise the 'uncredited amatuer journo' , to not give up his day job ;D The phots on the other hand, outstanding

He knows I kid. This is a simply another episode of mediocre responses from the "817" crew of two - I did this helo to helo flying job once with 3 Seakings in formation and took what i thought was some pretty good photographs. I show them to Lewy and Rats and the response was quote "yeah, they're alright". Alright!!!! Effing Alright!!!! But now I know that in their little world of understatement that they probably rated the photographs somewhat okay. It reminds me of the two critics from the Muppet Show, Statler and Waldorf...

Rag bikes it Thanks to a handy PR push through my workplace, my team for the Scott24 2009 “Raging Bull Racing”, end up having a story in the workplace newspaper months ago. In a news flash that came across my desk, just last week the same story found its way into the local rag. A quarter page including colour picture, page 17. It featured the same picture that heads my blog, Santa hat and all, incredible! hit it mcrummy.blogspot.com
