hi guys!! ;D
thought i woud let everyone know what i've been upto and what i have coming up.
For starters i'm now riding for a new mountain bike and road team so next time you see me, i'll be wearing bright pink, riding for the new Rush Racing Factory Specialised Cyling Team.
I'm riding a Specialised s-works Epic and S-works Tarmac sl3 for the 2010 season.
Its been a hectic start to the year and i have had some great results for my new team. It started out with racing the Jayco bay Cycling Classic down at geelong, vic. This was a 4 day criterium road race. Awesome event and only the 2nd time i have ever raced a road crit..havn't even done a club crit before this!!
i fikished just outside the top 10 each day and got a preliminary sprint win on day 2 and ended up in 4th in the overall sprint points race.
This was all aprt of mine and fenners( ftptraining.com )plan to bring on my form for the Australian Mountain bike championships held in Adelaide,SA on jan 16/17th.
I was feeling real good leading upto the race and a few days practice before the race really had me feeling confident for a top 10 and a strong race.
The race started out great with me sitting in bout 9th or 10th and feeling comfortable and great. each l;ap went by and stayed at my own pace keeping Paul Van De in my sights hoping to close the gap on him on the last lap.(6lap race)
On my last lap i found myself riding up onto Sid Taberlay!!
i was well shocked and gave it my all to get him. it worked and it placed me in 3rd for the elite men podium and 15metres behind paul van de for 4th overall.
Podium at the champs....STOKED!!!
This was followed up by the short course which was super fats and super hard. Short course races go for 20mins plus 3 laps and usual story with a short course race is that everyone goes ballistic for the first 10mins then settles down before going crazy again for the last 3mins and 3 laps..not the case for this race!!
the pace was on from the get go and didn't let up until the checkered flag dropped at the finish line. i managed to hold onto 5th place and absolutely spent!!
The next weekend we went o shepparton, vic for national mtb rd 2. Super hot condition greeted everyone and a track that wasn;t to everyones liking. big long draggy climb into a head wind then a techo awkward undulating decent that the majority of the elite field RAN rather than rode.
I came in 6th, jus behind 5th and was happy with salvaging a strong result at a track that wasn't suited to me and with the tough conditions.
The weekend after (30-2) came wildside, tasmania. A four day stage race held on tassies west coast. I raced down here with my new team and Fenner. It was an awesome week of racing and super tough hard fast racing.
Every condition you could imagine riding through, we raced through it in the 2 stage a day event. i was fortunate enough to get a stage win on stage 3 on sunday morning! this moved me into 2nd in the open men category behind aussie champ Dan Mcconnell.
Unfortunately i had a few major mechanical issues, as a result from racing through the treaturous conditions, come monday morning..Houston..we have a problem!!
from now on, it was survival and trying to lose as littl time as possible to the rest of the strong field. Unfortunately i couldn't hold on enough and i ended up falling back to 8th overall. Bit disapointed but an awesome weeks racing, one that i would def recomend to anyone thinkin about doin a stage race!
One consolation was that i was the only rider to get a stage win from Sid Taberlay which was cool. He dominated every other stage but a mechanical on day 2 took him out of the overall contention.
Its been a crazy few weeks of racing and i've loved every minute of it!
Now its off to Thredbo this weekend for the national Mtb rd3, then back to victoria next weekend for the Otway Odyssey 100km race.
Hopefully this weekend i can hold onto a solid top 10 finish and maybe crack the top 5 again.
Hope everyone is riding lots and having just as much fun out on their bikes.
See you on the track.
