Super bowl has had its Environmental Impact Assessment done and has been passed albeit with some recommendations.
It is now time to start on addressing some of the issues of Superbowl. We shall be starting on the downhill section looking at the two right hand corners that will need to be realigned as well as addressing some erosion issues in the gullies at the bottom.
Duncan, Josh, Ned and I will be assessing it tomorrow and prioritize a the jobs. We shall have a working evening on Friday 4th March from 4pm till Dark.
Cheers Matt

The plan for next Friday will be to realign the right hander at the lower end of the Superbowl descent. At present it simply doesn't comply with IMBA guidelines and the results should be obvious to all. A new line has been roughly trampled by Duncan and Myself which you may like to check. I'll run the brush cutter over it Monday which should give a better view. Both Duncan and I would encourage other ideas if you have any as we tend to think alike and appreciate other perspectives, with IMBA guidelines being the overriding authority.
We hope to be able to get it in place for the race on the 6th but that will depend on how many people we get on Friday evening. There is a lot of work to be done to make the track both fun and challenging to ride (Superbowlly) and to get all the angles right for water run off. There are some run off issues on the climbs as well where water has been running down the track. These need attention as well so Fridays tasks will be a dependant on the numbers. If we only have a handful we shall address these if we get lots we shall look at the realignment and if we get heaps we shall do everything! Please let us know if you can make it Friday and if you would like to meet before hand at Superbowl to look and talk over the route I can do that.
Cheers Matt
PS The enviroment impact report strongly warns against the use of the leaf blower so please check this out before thinking of using it on the Superbowl track surface.

Worry not, Track Neanderthals!! The I.C.E powered wind maker is safe and sound in the SCUM trailer, which is far far away in Storage Land, Bomaderry.

Dear SCUMmers This Friday, the 4th of March, we are doing some track work at Superbowl. We have three tasks to tackle. Finishing the lower washed out corner, this will require hand tools: mattock, spade, bush saw and we'll get some SCUM tools there. Realign the upper washed out corner on the descent from Butterfly. This will require putting new track in so hand tools again plus a bit of input as to which lines will work best. The rest of the track is in reasonable condition but we need to prune the overhanging branches so a couple of people to ride the track with secateurs should do it. Whilst there are other things that we could do these are the priorities. Someone will be there from 4pm onward so get there when you can and you'll find us somewhere below Butterfly road. Cheers Matt

New sections added to Superbowl. Tony Conroy, Trevor Bridge, Allan Jones, Duncan Miller, Iain Watt, Bruce Carter, Russ Phelan and I have finished the realignment. A big effort by the guys above with the results being some very nice track for sundays race, so thankyou. It's a little soft in patches, very fast in patches and you'll be slowing down in sections. Get out and ride it before the race if you can, take it easy so you don't get any surprises like the squeezy trees where my bars got through fine but my arse got stuck, should discourage motos. Leave feed back of your thoughts/concerns and we'll go over the course again in the next few weeks to address the inevitable teething problems. Hope you enjoy it! Thanks also to Dave Tuckerman for cleaning up the Mini Cabage section. Cheers Matt

Just a quick update on Superbowl
The down hill section is bedding in nicely and we have finally cleaned up the rutted corners at the bottom. We have tried to cap these with some heavy soil from nearby, I hope it works as it was a bugger barrowing it up the hill.
Someone must have found the new tight corners abit beyond them and blocked it off and put in a new line, whilst the new line is not without merrit it has been built poorly and wouldn't meet the IMBA standard. I reopened the origional line but have left the new line for now.
The reasons for the origional tight line are these. *Challenge skill levels, yes it is meant to be hard! *Slow down riders in sensitive areas, the soil is quite loose in this section. *Discourage motor bikes.
I would encourage anyone to get involved with track work and design but do it properly. It is not a secret club and our trails coordinator and team welcomes input from anyone with some ideas. There is an opportunity this Saturday to do that at Coondoo as Cyprus hill is realigned. Russ and Duncan have already done some planning and it is sounding good.
I'll put my soapbox away now.
Cheers Matt

We have added one final new section to the descent of Superbowl. There is now an alternate line to taking the short pinch climb. You need to look left before you take the dip prior to the pinch and follow the new track.
There is a tight switch back and plenty of benching and rocks but I think it should be nice in a Superbowly way (which really isn't nice but a lot of fun and challenging).
I am yet to ride it but will do so tomorrow. Ride it before Sunday and it should get packed down firm so that it can be used for the race (this is at the discretion of the race coordinator as the original line is still in play and may be chosen)
Please please don't blow any leaves off for the race prep. The leaves are nice and won't damage your tyres I promise.
Enjoy and let me know of any concerns. Cheers Matt

Matt, I will be race director this weekend. Let me know how the track is after your ride tomorrow. I'll rely on your judgement for what parts of the track to use and not to use. The weather forcast doesn't look good though. High chance of rain sunday. Will monitor. Russ

Track report as of Tuesday 7th. The good news is that the coarse is great from the Butterfly road top down to the bridge over the creek. After that there are heaps of corners that have water issues. These are almost all caused by Motorbikes digging a rut which fills with water and sits.
I plan to put up some small signs highlighting these areas which will, hopefully: 1. Get mountian bikers to look at these areas being a problem and looking at possible solutions. 2. Distract motorbikers from opening the throttle. 3. Highlight to motorbikers the damage that they are causing.
Not sure if it will work but we need to try and address the problem as well as repair the damage.
I would suggest that anyone that can get to Superbowl do so, checkout the wet spots, which may very well dry out, but spend some time riding down and back up the good stuff, check out some new lines , race your friends back up and think about how we can continue to address the motorbike problems.
cheers Matt

Hi Matt
Along with my mate Steve we rode the track this afternoon. There are so many problems with the track. The motorbikes have destroyed almost every corner and water now covers most of these corners. I my self slid out a few times. So major corner work is needed to be done to the track. When you go down the first bridge and go up the other side there is a roots sticking out and the top of it is becoming very steep. Also dad and I have the SCUM trailer and will bring it out to the race.
Thanks Luke

Thanks Luke In regards to the bridge area we recently had to rebuild the entrance to the bridge. Once you get through the top layer of soil there is a sandy layer underneath which washes away real quick if you get to it. This is what happened on the approach, whilst doing this work the root on the other side was brought up but it was decided that to dig it out would compromise the bank especially given that the root is actually protecting the bank to an extent and there is the b-line for those not keen on taking it on. Still it maybe something that the trail committee/ coordinator may wish to look at after the AGM. I did ride some of Superbowl Tuesday night and it had dried out some I should think that by Sunday it should be good given the wind. Cheers Matt

The easiest corner fix is take out the berm and make it off camber, sure not the best way to maintain speed but it definately hones your drifting abilities......there's plenty of footage (few years back) of Sam Hill and Nathan Rennie drifting at speed through off camber corners, some good slo mo too so you can study thier style.......Rennie was the guy who coined the phrase; "Two wheels, feet up, no brakes, drift!!"... ;D
