Despite a bit of gloomy weather in the last week or so it's actually looking pretty good for the annual end of year event. See www.scum.asn.au/thirtysixty/ for all the details. There are categories for just about everyone. The 15km loop will be a good option for kids or people trying mtb for the first time. Remember if you want to do the 90km option you will need to enter online by Thursday night. Everyone else can enter online or on the day, plus online entries go in the draw for a Velvet RL Fork valued at over $500. We've already got quite a few online entries in all categories with open mens 90km being the most popular to date. Also make sure you bring along all your old bike gear (even roadie stuff) to swap sell or give away.

Had a look at the course map for the start/finish area Duncan.....have we used that area in the past? What is the surface condition of Chestnut rd??...and I'm guessin' there'll be clear signage on the day?......Sorry mate, it's just that I've never been along that rd before.

Yep there will be signs up on the Sat and Sunday to get you there. It's just a different approach to the same area. Main thing is that it gravel up to the start/finish and pretty much any vehicle will get in and out regardless of weather on the day.
Also the start finish area is well drained so good for everyone.
Ignore Chestnut Road shown on Google maps it doesn't exist anymore in real life . The line I have put on there is the road (Pipeline Rd), but for some reason Google has reverted to an old version of the roads which is really confusing because about 2 months ago they had a better map.
The other thing is please do not take some other road in to this point as the course will going through the whole area.

What doesn't exist anymore....the road or just the name?!?! Do I have to point you to your own signature line ... I've been waiting ages for that opportunity. Short answer: the road. The info on Google maps is well out-dated Long answer Ok. Click on the link below the map that says View... in a larger map. Hit the the Satellite button at the top right hand corner of the map, then use the zoom (+ and - sign on the slider left side of map) to zoom in and click and drag to move the map around. Check out the straight line that goes right through the Forest along my little blue line and beyond. That's Pipeline Road. It's a little vague in places but you can see it. Can you see it on the Google maps as a road? nah. Now see if you can see chestnut road? When you are out there you can see vaguely where it used to be. Out of curiousity check out where Butterfly Road goes and doesn't. While you're playing around switch back to map mode (top RH of map) and head out along Forest Road to Callala. Check out the proposed building blocks all the way out to Currarong. Most of that is now National Parks. This stuff was on the 70/80's topos and for some reason google has recently picked it up. Confused hell out of me for a while, because it wasn't so weird a couple of months ago. Maybe it's just the retro trend hitting Google maps. Oddly they used to have the names for some of the proposed streets (which we ride on now and then) but now they have the plans but no street names.

ok back on track (apolgies to you all and BtT for the digression)
The track is pretty much sorted. As it stands the 15km loop is just little over that and the 30km loop will include one wading spot. Other than that we've managed to avoid most of the really wet areas.
We'll be needing some volunteers on the day to help out, so if you are just hanging let us know as we have a check point that needs manning and some help in timing/rego is always welcome.

I'm happy to be at a check point, do you want us to meet you at about 6:30am to be out there by 7am? Or later because it is at the far end of the course?

Obviously a lot of people are keeping an eye on the weather for this weekend and so are we.
The weather forecast is improving in our favour and given the conditions out there after the rain on Monday, and the warm windy conditions I'm calling it a definite probability of all going to plan.
There will almost definitely be some rain on Thursday but we are confident at this point that the days after will take care of that on the track as it is.
Remember online entries close tomorrow night and if you want to do the 90k you need to enter online.
If you want to change your online entry category please email me at trails@scum.asn.au or changes can be made on the day. So if you are thinking of doing the 90 but aren't totally sure enter it online and you can change your mind on the day.
Not surprisingly the Mens 60k is now the largest category with the 90k not far behind. +40 and +50 categories are well supported too.

....wading spot?!?!....conjures up all sorts of depths.... Can I sign out gummies from the start/finish area?? ... was hoping you wouldn't pick up on that. You'll be right, just don't wear those flash white roadie shoes I know you have hidden somewhere in your bike gear. It's the only real waterhole I haven't found a way around, or there is but I would need someone (probably with a 4wd) to sit out on the powerlines for the entire event, 7am till 1pm or whenever, to avoid mass confusion. I'd rather cop heaps for making mtb'ers deal with water rather than for getting them all confused. Besides, mud is the new dust.

Surely after today this still can't be going ahead.
You will need flippers and a snorkel.
