Hi all,
Due to the cancellation of the 3 hr race this Sunday I am going to run a family day/social ride at Coondo. All are welcome and I am proposing to set up a number of shorter tracks for the kids and novices to try out as well as the normal 6.8km and 9km full loop.
The event will open at 9:00am until 12:00pm and it will be a matter of logging in if you want a time recorded or you can just head out and ride as a social ride you don't need to register. This is a no stress fun event so keep that in mind.
The trailer and timing equipment will still be there for the hard cores riders who want to do a time trial type event but just remember there will be novices on the track so care must be taken. If anyone want to have a turn at timing in without the stress of the race feel free to come along.
I am not sure on the road conditions so it may be worth parking off Forest Rd and riding in.
As this event is a purely social event there will be no rego or day license required. SCUM's will be on site purely in a social context and if we get some interest I will arrange for a sausage sizzle.
The weather is still looking iffy so keep an eye on this tread for updates. Sunday morning 8:15 will be the latest call off time.

Thanks for the initiative Matt.... This wasn't emphasised enough in Matt's post but the reason the timing gear will be there is for people to learn how to set it up and use it. This has been a request from members numerous times in the past, so Vannessa has kindly dedicated her time on Sunday to teach people how the timing system works....So....if you're a SCUM member or a regular to our events and you're there on Sunday, EXPECT to have a turn at the timing.

Re paths to the trail head, yesterday I parked just off Forest Rd as my front wheel drive was not getting there. As for Comberton? Well I wasn't going to attempt the "bog hole" either.
The track itself has a few puddles but should be clear by the weekend pending any rain.

Time permitting i will try and do some work on the 'bog hole' located on the way in from Comberton grange on Saturday. And yes any more rain will make that task difficult.

Family ride day update.
Well the track is in great shape thanks to Russ and his helpers. Unfortunately I can't say the same about the road in. The Forest Rd side is really iff down near the first bridge so parking up near Forest Rd is the best advice. If you are riding down from there keep to the left and you should be ok.
The Comberton Grange Rd side is better, the water crossing is still there but it is only about 250 to 300mm deep and is hard packed so the average AWD or 4WD should be fine. The problem is the final hill to the trail head it was getting better today and if you stay in the track you should be fine. If in doubt park before the hill and ride up. If you see me bogged there with the trailer then it will be fairly obvious where the problem area's are. If you have a standard 2wd I would not risk it for the final hill.
There will be 6 tracks to choose from tomorrow varying from 1km, 2km, 3km, 6km, 6.8km's and 9km. The tracks are all marked and are based around the normal track with different turn offs at Kashmir, Beach St and the start and finish of Hot as Hell. As a general rule you can turn west on the East /West fire trails and you will get back to the start. The tracks are marked with Green, yellow, Red and Blue markers with arrows showing the direction but if you get lost head west on the East west Rd. Due to the track configuration you have to follow the trail markers when on North South fire trail which comes up from the waterfall (start of Bobsled).
The weather is looking dry if a little cool so rug up and bring the kids, partners and anyone else who is keen to try MTB.
