All our paper work is in with State Forest and is now being looked over. I am hoping that it is all ok and we can move quickly but the time line I've been given is "the end of the year but hopefully quicker". I think, but have to check, that State Forest are actually in the process of developing a state wide policy which we are part of. I will see if we can mark our trails as this will be part of our Moto strategy.
I have a letter ready to go to all our local members spruiking SCUM and the benefits to our community that this agreement will be. I've also written to the local Police Commander about discussing ways to combat the Motos, hence the need for trail marking.
The Cogs are turning and hopefully our end of year bash will be with something to celebrate. State Forest have been great host and Steve (State Forest)and Duncan have developed good relationship between our to organisations so I will endeavor to keep that going.
Will let you know where we are up to as things develop.
Cheers Matt

Fantastic news Matt.... ;D ....now comes the hard work involved with marking the trails...count me in though!
On the subject of trail marking, apart from the added ability to show motos that is is an authorised MTB specific trail, (not holding much confidence in the effectiveness of that) the prime reason given to us was always the ability to demontrate compliance with EPA standards and the wavering of liability to Forests NSW and the club which needs to be clearly stated on the trailhead sign. (a requirement stressed to me by Ken Boer the previous FNSW rep and subsequently ammended to my first draft trailhead sign submitted for Coondoo).
I'm confident you're already aware of these details as I know Duncan is, I just thought I'd share some history to make other forum readers aware of the level of regulatory compliance SCUM as a club needs to have. My involvement in the past really highlighted to me, the unique effort and level an MTB club (as opposed to other volunteer associations) has to maintain.
Be proud to be a SCUM member and support you're executive at all times as they have to make difficult and business like decisions that often dont go hand in hand with just jumping on the tredley and going for a spin in the bush!... ;D

I have done a couple of reads of the agreement and at present I have only couple of things that I wish to negotiate on. My main concerns are about SCUMs ability to play it's part. As President I will be responsible for ensuring that SCUM complies with this agreement, I intend to very thorough.
At present our Trails managment consists of Geoff Lockhart who is keeping Butterfly maintained (Thanks Geoff for your work on this too) and myself looking after Superbowl. I will not be able to keep up with superbowl. We have great tracks and have been given a great oppertunity by Forests NSW but apathy will result in these both being wasted.
We need a trails team before I sign any agreement. It maybe that you may have a passion for a track or are able to coordinate a team of people. If you have any interest in playing a part in this large or small make it known. I will be requiring a minimum of one person looking after each track and a trails coordinator. Sorry for being hardball but I've tried fluffing members up for 4 months with no joy it simply is crunch time.
Luke Harden will be developing a calendar for next year along with Russ. Obviously he will be open to ideas and requests about what sort of races you like to race. What we really want to hear are the sort of races you want to be part of putting on. I want all members to take pride in our events, in our culture that we are trying to develope, in helping out each other both on and off the track and in our club. So think about what sort of events/races you want to be part of as members of SCUM.
A club meeting will be called for as soon as we can where we can discuss these matters. Membership wil be important so don't forget we also have a social membership that is $45 or you can value add fom Cycling Australia, BMXA and ADCC for $50 if you wish to have a say, vote and be part SCUM.
In the meantime feel free to contact me to discuss the agreement or email Luke in regards to our XC calendar

To join SCUM as an ADCC member, I thought was only $10.
I may have someone who is keen to look after the 3 remaining tracks. That's if SCUM membership is only $10 for ADCC members. He may even be trail co ordinator. I do know him fairly well. He just needs to tell his wife.

All value add (including ADCC) are $50 add $10 for club fee $60 total....the thing that annoys me is to become a social member of SCUM you have to fork out $45 to MTBA....WHAT FOR!!

The $45 bucks covers insurance when working on the trails I'll have to chase all this up. I've had varying accounts of the value add set up which needs chasing up.

I'll have to check on the cost, I got it off the mtba site but hopefully I have made an error. I had a look at the mtba site. Being an ADCC mtb member is a full mtba membership so its just the club fee that ADCC have to pay to become SCUM members. I will pay both when I renew in November.

Still waiting, sorry. Mtba have sent to their insurers to check it over.
One of the safety aspects to do with the agreement is that all our tracks will be directional, clockwise for all our tracks. So if you like riding them backwards do so before we sign up!!
Cheers Matt

Whilst I'm still waiting to get advise back from MTBA and IMBA, seems that we are low on trail advocacy pecking order, I would like to draw your attention to section 9.1 and 9.2
9. Responsibilities 9.1 SCUM Mountain Bike Club is responsible for: a) Track construction and maintenance according to the guidelines in this agreement. b) Site safety, including traffic management where required. c) Prompt notification of FNSW of any problems or issues on or near the trails not covered by the guidelines and specifications of this agreement. d) Removal of track infrastructure and signage on individual or multiple mountain bike tracks if the track is closed, if required by Forests NSW due to the cancellation of this agreement by either party.
9.2 SCUM President is responsible for ensuring the club complies with this agreement and at the end of the Presidents term he notifies FNSW that a new agreement needs to be signed by the incoming president. Continued use of the mountain bike tracks will be dependent on a new agreement being signed.
As Current President I want to know that I have the support of the SCUM members in fulfilling our responsibilities. The hard line is that if I don't think we have the desire too then we may need a new President or we back away from the agreement. That's he hard line!
I happen to think we have a lot of willing people and I have been encouraged by the way that many members have been supporting the club. Please let me know of your feelings on the agreement, it does effect things like our involvement in Coondoo classic and the trails management will be something that we need to look at.
Cheers Matt
