Matt, Lewy
Tony and I have been out at Coondo checking out routes for the next race, we are looking at using the northern part of the normal track then diverting back up an existing track on to the fire trail to the new section on the southern side of the fire trail. From there back up onto the fire trail back to track across the top of the ridge line to get back onto the old track at the top of the rise near the finish. The lap will be around 4.5km with some minor new work need which Tony is going to check out Saturday arvo.
I am away from Friday until Monday the 5th so we will probably need to look at doing a track day on the Friday arvo or Saturday morning before the race.
If anyone want to give Tony a hand on the weekend you could probably leave a message on here or meet him out there.
Let me know if there are any major objections and Tony has posted most of the new lap on Strava not sure how to link it?
Give me a call if you need otherwise I will get back in contact when I get back from holidays up the coast.

Unless Matt has an updated position I believe it best that no new track or track changes be made.
SF's made it quite clear that nothing is to be done before the agreement is is sorted and then only after getting approval for works. I'm guessing Lewy is working on plans at the moment, but there 's a lot of work to do to get the existing tracks sorted as per the agreement (signage and such).
Anyway that's off topic. I'm thinking Coondoo being quite fast and all it'd be good to have a 5-6km track depending on numbers and if the weather's good we should have a good roll-up.
Rumour has it there'll be a coffee van even so I'm a starter.

Yeah, when I read that last post I thought wow...this agreement with FNSW must have really gone through some changes if we are allowed to just cut in new track as we like?!?!

I was meaning to post something about that.
I am sure we can get a 6km course in on Coondoo without adding any new track.
Will that be long enough though.

Thats the sort of length I was thinking of. Last year the coarse didn't go near cypress hill or the dam and was about 6 and a bit k's.

Hi everyone
I'm running this race, my first that I've run so bear with me.
As this is our traditional Mont lead up race it's a chance for those doing the Mont to test lights, practice transitions and build up their caffeine tolerances. Whilst we are still sorting out a course the brief is to keep it to about 30min laps and make it suitable for all levels of riders. I'd rather err on the too soft side. We shall have a track day to ensure that we have good clear B-lines and plenty of passing areas.
A coffee van will be there. I will need to arrange times and let everyone know. The coffee van also does some food which I will also let you know about.
I will need people to help with timing so if you're sitting around watching please come over and help with watching the numbers, easy peasy and I can get you a coffee for your trouble.
I'll let you know more early next week as I finalise details. Please feel free to post ideas or contact me with ideas or offers of help.
Heavy SCUM will be on.

Matt, I mapped a course the other day on Strava that was 5.3km with plenty of overtaking areas and avoided the dam section and also the steep hill near the end of the normal track. There are some already cleared sections of track that can be added to it to take it past 6km if needed. I rode the 5.3km in about 18mins and most of it is fine with no work needed and no need for "B" lines. I had told Matt I would continue working on the track we had already rode and also investigate possible better options - do you want me to continue or leave it to you guys?

Sorry for all the confusion this is an area of SCUM that I started addressing at our last November meeting but due to my accident have been unable to "move forward" with it.
Lewy is our trails coordinator so best discuss it with him. His role is to ensure that we comply with our agreement with Forest NSW. He also has a better understanding of setting courses and can actually ride a bike at present.
I would love it if you could look at all the B lines ensuring that they are suitable for beginners and possibly get some poly pipe posts in so we can put some signage up for them.
Discuss your course options with Lewy but I would love you to keep working on our tracks for the simple reason that you do great work!!
Cheers Matt

Tony
I just had a look at your track on Strava and it looks pretty good.
The only thing I would change is to maybe head out missing link then back up Hot as Hell backwards then down through the new section and back to normal including the hill and the log jumps. This may be slightly longer than 6kms but would coe in around 30mins for the avg punters lap time.
All the log jumps have existing B-lines they just need to be marked a little better. I can probably get out to Coondoo sometime during the week or next weekend if you want.

Course marked in blue was what I was thinking. All existing tracks and nothing too hard.

Lewy, As you saw on my strava ride I used all the available track in the area you outlined (including Blair Witch) without backtracking or crossing tracks and managed to post 6.1kms. The tracks pretty good with only one boggy spot (just before BW) which at the moment is negotiable with only the minimal amount of mud sustained. I placed another couple of poly markers around on the normal track which will be relevant to the 4hr track and I'll try to get some more in before the race.

umm I'm thinking the flatter parts of the fire shed track would be the closest. Haven't been to Manna Park though (adds to list ). You'll enjoy it. Looks like the guys here have a fun circuit in mind.
